GM Goodwrench Tranny - Any Experience?

Hi All

I have a 96 4x4 S10 Blazette that I acquired from my brother in law, free - it has no second gear. Sun shell is AFU, right?

I have been considering a GM Goodwrench replacement. Saw them online somewhere for around 1300. 3yr/100K warranty, but I understand that's only if GM or an independent shop does the install. I was thinking of yanking out the bum unit out myself and then having someone else do the install so the warranty is valid.

Anyone have any experience with one of these? Any dollar figure breakouts for the yankout/install/tranny cost?

thanks!!!!!!!

Just got mine replaced with a rebuild because the Dodge dealership made the mistake of giving a 3 Month / 3,000 Mile warrenty. I have no idea what the GM dealer charged them but I would guess around $1500. Been holding up pretty good so far, but I only have 1800 miles on it.

I've got a GM Goodwrench tranny in mine, about 60K miles on it now, still doing fine. I think for the removal, new trans, install was a little less than $1800.

Couple of months ago I helped a buddy install a GM reman tranny into his 1500. The dealer didn't care who did the work, and will honor the warrenty to 3yr/100k. You can always talk to the dealer, and make an aggreement with them that you will drive the truck to their place so they can inspect it after the install. Get their signature on the warrenty and be on your merry way.

I am pretty sure I have a How-to thread on the tranny removal and install in the Self-Help section. If you have any questions, ask in this thread. I will suscribe to it so I get an email when someone posts up. If you do decide to do the work yourself, shoot me an email and we can exchange phone numbers. Taht way if you get stuck, have a question, or what not, you can call me.

Hanr3, you are a prince among men. I have your threads links in my favorites, great stuff. I'm going to head over to my local Chev dealer and see what they have to say. Thanks much!!
