Exclamation had a question about the intake gaskets

i just got the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets replaced. i didnt do it, it was honestly too much for me so i let my mechanic deal with it. he did it. it didnt work. when i called to tell them, he said it was a silicone gasket not an actual gasket. but when i look on threads here i see brands like fel pro/ etc. does using silicone make sense or should an actual gasket have been used

Actual gaskets. Idk what they were smoking if they just used silicone on the mating surfaces

There are a couple plastic/rubber gaskets that seal the intake to the head. I didn't use silicone between the two, but did use a bit on the front and rear where the intake meets the block.

yea thats what i thought, because he hasnt got paid yet and hasnt until this ****s fixed...meaning if he has to take it apart oh well not my problem. in your opinion(s) what is the best gasket for upper and lower intake?

and trust me, this guy i swear ill go in to get my tires rotated, and 2 weeks later something else goes wrong, at 85/hr i could go to a gmc dealer probably cheaper

Honestly, if he even just SAID it was silicone gaskets and actually used FelPro's he's still questionable. And no, without taking the intake off there's no way of knowing for sure. If it were me (well I do it myself but either way) I'd have it towed to a DIFFERENT shop and redone. And yes. Use the Felpro gaskets. But when you say it didn't work...what is there still antifreeze going into the oil? If he meant silicone on the UPPER intake gasket. I Could see him doing that as it's only and air gasket (between the actual manifold and the plenum). But still not recommended. Either way. I agree with 4x4GS10B, he should not be working on vehicles.
