Hard Cold Start

I have a 01 that requires excessive crank time to start, 3 to 4 seconds, when cold. It starts immediately when warm. Ideas?

I just bought this vehicle. It has 85000 miles.

you posted this in the wrong section my friend. this it the website help section, as in help with the website itself.

to answer your question a full tune up would probably solve it. fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap, & rotor. Probably wouldnt hurt to dump a bottle of STP fuel system cleaner in the tank either.

Yep, sounds like dirty injectors to me.

Possible dirty fuel filter or pump is bleeding down when parked for a long time.

yeah, i forgot about drain back. im not sure where the fuel pressure regulator is either never had an issue with them on blazers before.

if it starts fine in warm weather i doubt its having a drain back issue. but you never know, it could just be letting a couple lbs of pressure drain back leaving enough fuel for a warm start. only way to know is to check the fuel pressure.

What happens if you prime the fuel system first. Turn the key on and wait for the pump to shut off (5-10 seconds), then turn it back off. Do this at least twice before attempting to start it.

That will tell you if the problem is with the fuel pressure or not.
