Default Headlights go off and come back on

I've got a 97' Blazer 4dr and I've got something wierd going on with my headlights. When I was coming home after driving for a little while my headlights went off for about a second and came back on and did thisa few times in a row. I've had this happen only a couple times so far. When it does it, my gauges stay lit and my parking lights stay on, but the headlights just go off. It's done it with both the hi and low beams on. When the high beams went off, the blue indicator also went off.I'm pretty sure I heard some sort of click, like the sound of a relay when the lights went off and came back on. I don't have an auto headlight featureon my car. I was wondering if it could be a bad relay. If so, where is it located. Thanks.

WOW, i have the EXACTLY the same issue. EXACTLY. I have been tearing my hair out trying to find out what is causing it.

I have a 1997 chevy blazer 4dr 4wd too.

edit* The weirdest thing about the whole situation, is how it almost seems like the car is trying to adjust for it being day or night. I dont know how the DRL's work on the 97 blazer, but could it be a problem with the DRL sensor? Does the 97 even have a DRL sensor. I notice my lights flicker most when there is on comming traffic/bright street lights above.

MOST IMPORTANT- It happens under the SAME exact spots around town, thats why im thinking the DRL sensor is messed up because it is catching light from the same sources. I dont know, i might be crazy too =D

It sounds like it may be a bad ground going to the lights. They share so if it was bad they would both go out. First step would be to check the harnesses going to both lights. It could be the relay, but in my relay failures auto and home they always seem to just stop working all together rather than work then not work then work again.

Sounds like a short or bad headlamp switch. There is a circuit breaker built into the switch and a short would cause the beaker to open making the lights go out. When the short goes away the breaker will reset automatically and the lights come back on. That resetting might be the clicking your hearing.
