Heater core question
Car: 2001 Chevy Blazer, 4dr, 4x4
If a heater core was replaced a few months ago for leaking coolant, would it take a while for the coolant smell to go away? I just bought this Blazer used, and according to the Carfax the core was replaced on Dec 2, 2016. I'm just trying to figure out if the new core is leaking or if it could just be residual smell.
Thanks

The coolant drips down into the carpet and jute backing when they leak, so the smell could stick around for a little bit, especially if it was leaking badly or for a long time before it was replaced.
If the smell is intense, or it gets worse when the engine is running or the heat is on, it's more likely that it is leaking. Check the passenger side floor for dampness, the heater core sits just above it and if it's leaking it would likely be damp with coolant around there

After I replaced my heater core I used wet wipes to wipe down the entire interior, and glass wipes on the windows. The smell went away pretty quickly. If it were still leaking I would think you'd would have a film build up on the windows and dash for sure.

And coolant level would be dropping
