Help getting EGR tube out
 
Hello all, new to the forum but I have found a lot of helpful information on here. I have a 2000 blazer, which I am replacing the lower intake gaskets on. I found a great thread on replacing this, but I'm having a ridiculously hard time getting the EGR tube out of the lower intake. the first time I tried, it started coming loose, but I didn't notice til about halfway through it was actually bending the tube! I really need to get this out so I can finish the project so any help would be appreciated.

Use heat, PB Blaster, and a flare wrench, or a good quality, (Snap on etc) open end wrench, not a cheapie. Don't even THINK about using vice grips or a crescent wrench.

will do thanks for the input. I'm assuming the actual tube isnt supposed to rotate with the threaded part right?

Correct, it's a flare fitting, tube and nut are separate. Be very careful when removing, if you force it, the threads in the lower intake will strip, then you need a new manifold. Use Antiseize on the threads when reinstalling.

Okay, I got the gaskets all changed out and the truck put back together. Now I'm having another problem. It's having a hard time starting. When it does, it runs okay, but it seems like its off time. I did what the write up said and mark where the dist was and the cap, but when I put it back it was a little off where it was when I pulled it. Is there any way to adjust this back with the least amount of trouble?

dont quote me on this, but there is a brown wire under the dash on the drivers side that you unhook, unhook that and set the timing to 0° and maybe try to start it... For the love of god, I hope captain hook comes back in this thread, going to message him.

rich,i dont think 2nd gens have the tan wire to disconnect. just the 1st gens. I believe 2nd gens are 100% computer controlled via crank sensor and cam....


captain...where ya at? LOL oh yea..its 3am,he's probably doing lower intake gaskets in his sleep.

alright so I found some stuff on trying to get it to TDC so I can get this thing back where it's supposed to be. If im reading this correct, I need to take the distributor out, and rotate the little gear with a flathead to the #1 cylinder notch on the cap?

No,remove the #1 plug. stick your finger in it. turn the crank with a socket until the piston pushes a puff of air to get it top dead center. Now,look at the distributor with the cap off. all you need to do is get that rotor button pointing towards #1 cylinder.
