Hickup/Spitting Again

Alright, well often my blazer will spit, hesitate on acceleration. Like it will go and then it sounds like the car is hickuping/spitting/putting whatever you wanna call it and then ill give it a bit more gas and it will be fine. It doesn't do it everytime.. its seems like hit and miss.. some drives it will and some drives it won't do it at all. Well I did an oil change and I figured I would change my fuel filter too. So I changed it and threw a bottle of injector cleaner in er.. went a day with none of it and then it started doing it again.. What could it possibly be? I hateee it. Would the sparks plugs cause this? Could it be compression? Im out of ideas and I wanna fix it.

Check fuel pressure when it happens....and check the wires at the tank for corrosion....it could be an intermittent voltage problem at the fuel pump in the tank....

Check the computer for codes and maybe it will tell you what is happening, or just get closer than guessing...

How do I check the fuel pressure when its happening? I just got the fuel sending unit replaced about 2 months ago because of the fuel guage problem. Doesn't that include the pump as well? It's ACDELCO too.

Another possibility would be the TPS. You can check that with an analogmultimeter.

Wouldn't it be nice if they made affordable scan tools!

What's the TPS exactly do? And if it is that, how much would it cost to fix?

Any other suggestions?

Hi Klblazer,
I too still am having this running like crap(especially after about 2minutes after morning starts) i replaced so many things already: TPS(throttle position sensor),sparkplgs,wires,rotor/cap,egr-valve,muffler..i want to also replace the catalylic converter but they are so blasted being over $800.

What does it exactly do?

Well has anybody checked on your EGR valves, it is the black pop can looking things with wires coming out of it between the thermostat and the A/C pump. If these become blocked by carbon deposits then they will create an intermittent vacuum leak. Since carbon is interfering with the operation. There are EGR gaskets with screens that help to eliminate the problem.

When you take off the EGR valve check the passages in the intake manifold for excess amounts of carbon, you can spray carbon cleaner into the passages and have some one start up the truck, but stand back because all the carbon will be shot out of the passage like a popped balloon...like opening up a compressed air line with a hand nozzle...so be safe...then turn off the truck and replace all the parts. Also clean the EGR valve at the same time making sure there are no carbon bits within those passages...need compressed air or a strong wet/dry vacuum source. Then reinstall the valve and see if this solved the problem not a whole lot of money spent except for the carbon cleaner and your time...
