hood latch cable

I'm hoping this is the right section to put this is. kind of a stupid question but i figured id ask. when i pull the lever from the inside i hardly feel any tension on the cord when pulled. i have to lightly bang on the hood to get it popped open. how can i tighten the cable? '

the thing about it is it sometimes works and sometimes doesnt. kind of strange I know lol

I find if you spray the latch under the hood with pb blaster/ wd40 it tends to be fu.e for months. At least it Dora for me. I don't know if there is a way to tightenthe cable though.

i actually tried both wd40 and pb blaster. it seems to work for 2 or 3 times but after that i gotta re-do it

I'm sure it can be tightened I'm just not sure how it can be done correctly, there maybe a way to do it at the latch with another crimp thingy. Sorry im not sure what to call it

Here's what I did: I clamped a fishing weight between the ferrule at the end of the cable and the latch. It effectively shortened the cable and made it easier to open the hood latch. The only bad thing about that solution is that the lead weight is soft and can deform and stick itself to the side of the latch making it hard for the cable to retract properly.

This seems common. My mech knew about it before I finished my sentence when I tried to tell him about it. I'm just living with it for now. My hood will usually pop open if I pull the release and then just semi-slam the driver's door closed.

Same problem on my 99 Balzer, between the ferrule and latch on the cable is a very mangled spring which needs replacing when I get around to it.

You can stretch the hood spring, the one attached to the hood near the striker. Usually lasts for a while, just pull down on it a bit to stretch it.

If you want to do it right, get a new spring and adjust the hood latch.

could i find the spring at any auto part store? or is it something id have to order from gm.
and it looks like the last guy stretched the spring lol

You'll have to go to a GM dealer. The problem is the spring is compressed most of the time, and it loses tension so it can't push the striker out of the latch.
