HVAC Blower Motor Replacements
Hi there,
I discovered that what I thought was a whistle from my Auto-HVAC system was actually the blower motor bearing going out. Looking at RockAuto for replacements I saw a range of prices from $34 to $93! Anyone have any advice for doing the replacement or which brands to avoid in the replacement part? Thanks, Christine |
Could always try a salvage yard. They're not super common to go out believe it or not. Most of the time they last the life of the vehicle. It's the resistor that normally bites the dust.

I replaced the one on my Navigator and it wasn't so bad....Not sure about my blazer though... I looked in my GM manual and it has basically the same instructions. The only difference really is that the GM manual insists that you do NOT use RTV to seal up the cover. The directions say that after the cover is reinstalled to then seal the cut line using black weather-strip adhesive. I suspect that this is due to RTV releasing corrosive fumes when curing. Looking at the video and the AC-Delco fan pictures at Rockauto, it looks like blower motor mounting screw opposite the one that is exposed before removal is to be repurposed to hold the cover in place with the addition of a washer. |
