Ignition switch / harness second Gen

Does anyone know what is causing the ignition switch and or harness failure on the second gen blazers?

I've seen a lot of posts on this topic and would like to know if it is just wear and tear or is it high powered amps for stereos / aftermarket electronic add on's.

sound system and theft deterent system is stock on my 2000 trailblazer.
but i would like to get rid of the factory theft system period.

Anatomy of the Ignition Switch <-- That post gets into the aftermath.

There is an electrical arc each time the contacts open/close and the intensity of that arc and the damage that is done depends directly on the current load of the circuit.
