Key stuck in ignition
Hi there!!! 2004 S10 Blazer, key stuck in the ignition. Truck will start, key feels fine turning forward, but when I turn the key back, it stops before fully releasing. Tried brake, shifter, brake shifter, shifter brake etc. all last night, no luck. Did notice ( after disconnecting and reconnecting battery) truck runs rough. 12 volts on battery, gauge says close to 16 volts when running. Any suggestions? Could it possibly be the battery? Thanks tons in advance.......Jerry

is there a button that releases the key? have you tried wiggling the key while turning it? have you tried slamming it into park?

try turning the steering wheel a little and turning the key at the same time back. sometimes they lock up.

Tried all of these....still nothing.

ummmmmm try hitting it. might free up the key

Ok. Took off the shroud around the steering column, and on the right hand side there is a silver/chrome " button ". Pushed it in......bam, key is out. Looks like a contactor of some sort, probably a safety. Has no power, will not operate by itself....considered dead. Took a mini screw, screwed it into the plastic adjacent to the button to hold it in. There is no access to this magic switch on my 2004, sounds like there may be on other models.

the shroud may have been replaced with one from an older s10 blazer that didnt have a key release button.

in my blazer theres a hole underneath the ignition that looks like a screw goes in there, stick a screwdriver in there and it hits a little button and you can remove the keys

97 Blazer Key stuck, wont start after dash removal
I have a similar problem. I replaced my heater core and now my key is sticking and the engine cranks but will not start - no spark. I re-removed the dash to double check all my connections and everything was fine. When I re-connect my battery, my key is difficult to turn forward, my "lights on" buzzer sounds and my turn signals do not work when the key is fon. Radio works fine, gages seem fine but my fuel gage is pegged way past full. I can hear my fuel pump running when I crank the engine and after I crank then engine. I can remove the key after pushing the button below the column.
Some history:
The truck ran fine before I removed the dash to install the heater core. I think I was a little too rough with the steering column. I tried pulling it completely out during the dash removal process but gave up. I think I pulled it out about an inch. Also, the steering wheel was not locked when I disconnected column, but it became locked when I bolted it back in. I am thinking I damaged the ignition switch somehow during this porcess, but I am wondering why if the switch is damaged, why does the engine still crank? Why am I getting a buzzer when I initially reconnect the battery?
