Strange problem, the temp is too low! Could it be you have a extra large radiator, a high-flow or low-temp thermostat, and maybe someone put in a high-speed water pump and the water is going too fast to pick up all the heat from the engine.

Pinch a heater hose shut with a pair of vice grips and something to protect the hose. Report results.

Does it matter which hose, from water pump or block?

That’s about as high as it going then drops to 1/4 mark

Nope - no difference.

No change

What is temp by scanner? Or by infrared on intake at thermostat housing with heater hose pinched shut.

Next take your thermostat out and heat it in water in a pan on the stove and note what temp it opens using infrared temp gun.

The three thermostats I have open up around 195-205 in a pan , at this point these are the things I’m thinking:

1. The factory gauge is just off and not accurate ( I can try to wire up a aftermarket one)
2. The new radiator and new fan clutch are working to good. ( I can remove the fan and do a test run)
3. Some how water is getting around the thermostat ( I don’t know how to check for this the beveled o ring gasket Seem to seal good and makes a sandwich with the housing

it was 8 degrees this morning it stayed around 170 and the heat was Good

i might try to take the sensor out and put it in hot water of a know temperature to see what the gauge says

I'd vote for #1 being most likely what is going on. Have you found a way to measure the coolant temperature independently of the instrument panel gauge?

If someone has the manuals for your year Blazer, they can look up the table of resistance vs. temperature of the OEM temp sensor. That would allow you to test the sensor, assuming it is not too hard to remove and replace. Perhaps you could measure it in place too. If the sensor passes, then it is the gauge in the instrument panel.

If you go with an aftermarket gauge and sensor, be sure to test it first on the stove top. Is there room to tap into the thermostat housing to install a sensor?
