Default Lower thermostat?

I went in to Napa today to buy a lower thermostat, but the guy there told me he wouldn't recommend it for my (2003) blazer. He said the engine would "fight it" by running leaner and trying to heat up. He said the newer computers don't like people to just drop in lower thermostats like the old ones do.

Anyone put in a lower thermostat on a 2000 and up Blazer? Was there any power difference? Is a lower thermostat better for engine life?

WOW. What a disturbing trend in posters lately. Impatience at it's best.

How bout you give it a try and let us know now it goes. Worst case scenario, it'll throw a code and you throw a stock one back in.

You might get away with a thermostat in the 185* range but anything lower than that might change your mileage. I have read here and on other sites that after installing a lower temp thermostat the owner started having problems. Unless you reflash the computer to adjust for the lower temps then stick with the factory 195* stat.

To reflash a computer to work with lower stat will cost $100+ depending on the person doing the work. So is it worth it financially???

What, a 9-hour wait with no reply isn't long enough?
