Which new engine --> Jasper or GM?
I'm pretty sure I have a blown head gasket or a cracked head. I'm losing coolant, I don't have an external leak, my oil doesn't look like a milkshake, my exhaust is wet and smells sweet, and my engine is running rough/skipping.
Aside from that, my front and rear main seals are leaking, and I've got roughly 165k on the present motor (we bought it with 24k miles in late 2000).
By the time I pay someone to fix the head issue and the seals, I could just about put a new engine in (Though I have the expertise, I don't have the time or the space to do it myself)....I don't want to get rid of the vehicle, though Kelly Blue Book puts the private party value at roughly $4,000. One year ago, I (personally) replaced the fuel pump & filter, spark plugs, radiator, all hoses, the water pump, thermostat, and put in Prestone in lieu of Dex Cool.
Anyway, I've gotten quotes from Jasper/local shop, and the Chevy Dealer.
Both have a 3 year, 100,000 mile warranty.
The Jasper looks like it will be about $600 less than the GM, barring any other unforeseen parts required when the motor is replaced.
So, thoughts on which one I should go with, and why? Are they equal or is one truly better than the other?
Thanks,

Bump.

An engine from Jasper is a reman, not new. The GM is new.

Thanks for the reply.
I know the Jasper is a reman, but they claim better specs than GM.... just trying to decide if the GM is really worth the price difference, or if the Jasper is better. In my manufacturing experience "new" does not always equate to "better".....
I'm looking for advice from anyone who has experience with Jasper engines for a Blazer...or who can attest to the quality differences between the two.
Thanks,
Jonboy
