new owner 99 s10 trailblazer
 

Hi All,

Just joined forum after purchasing a 99 S10 trailblazer edition.

It has 211k mi, it has been well maintained by both owners, regular oil chg,etc.

Within last 18 mos, it received water pump, alternator, fuel press regulator,
up/lower ball joints, alignment,steering idler, rear drive u-joint, trans flushed,
front/rear brakes. Plugs changed about 2 yrs ago. Owner is retired and has put on approx 10k / yr for last 3 yrs.

It does not use any oil, and I could find no leaks, had it inspected by mechanic
and he pressure tested cooling system, said it was fine.

It needs a catalytic converter, currently is missing, owner needed an emergency repair and has not replaced it.

Any other major repair items I should look for or expect given the
the age / mileage ?

Owner said 4x4 works fine, did brief test. I would like to test further,
what is best method for testing 4wd on this ?

its pretty easy to tell when you are in 4 wheel drive, if you're turning at a low speed you can feel the front pulling. if you really want to test it get to a place where your rear tires are gonna spin then put it in 4wd and see if the front tires pull you out. magnaflow makes some universal cats that you can buy for fairly cheap, but it seems like you already fixed most of the stuff that would give you problems at that millage

Re: cat replacement, I see the direct fit has flanges at both ends,
with the O2 sensor just upstream of muffler. Typically, will a direct fit
just bolt in between the main exhaust pipe flange and then connect direct
to muffler?

The reason I ask is, on this truck there is pipe replacing the cat right now,
the pipe is welded to the front flange, and then connects to another
pipe via clamp/weld junction, this 2nd pipe connects via flange to muffler
this 2nd pipe also has an O2 sensor in it. I am thinking that the 2nd pipe
was part of the original cat and the previous owner just used the pipe to
make the repair work.

Is this a correct ?

A direct fit should just bolt in. They are much more expensive than a universal cat that would need to be welded in.

Keep in mind you'll need some nice tall jack stands as you'll probably have to remove the cross-member, and the cat is kinda a pain to maneuver between the frame and the mounts if I remember right! hope it helps.

you could take it to a monro muffler or exhaust place they'd probably weld it on for like $60
