Default just a couple questions

Hello everyone,

My name's Ryan, I just joined the site today. I recently purchased a 00 blazer and I know I'll have a few questions down the road, so it looks like I found the place to ask them. Anyways I purchased a white on black 00 blazer ls, 68k, 4.3l, auto, nicely equipped, and very well taken care of inside and out, not one dent. My parents purchased the truck brand new and babied it all its life. So I know it's history well. It's never seen mud and only a few dirt roads in its lifetime. I plan to use the blazer for our nasty North Dakota winters, and fishing and camping in the summer.

I'll snap some pics tonight when I get home.

Some of the questions I have now are

What auto transmission does my blazer have? Is there only one option?

Whats my gear ratio? What are the different codes for corresponding gear ratio's?

Do I have factory posi traction? What are the code's for the different axles?

Also curious if there is any recalls or problem areas I should know about with this year or style.
Thanks guys!
Ryan

Well as I did some digging I realize I have 3.42 gears, and it looks like open diffs. As for a trans I have the auto 4 speed 4l60e.

Congrats...sounds like you got a great deal. If you look through the forum you can see what topics are the most repeated which gives you a pretty good indication of the problem areas. From what I see here the major items most likely to give you trouble are the lower intake manifold gasket, front wheel bearings, blend door actuator in dash for heat/ac, and 4wd shift module located under the battery.

Thanks dobyken, it was a steal of a deal. I love the truck so far, but damn the gas mileage sucks compared to my car.

Thanks for the info kevlar!
Well that's weird, I see the gu6 but I have neither the GQ1 or the G80. So whats it mean when the don't list your diff type?

It's not Prius but most people get 15-16 city and 20-22 highway which for a SUV isn't bad. Mine is country driving and I average about 18-19 then again there's only one stoplight in my town.

sweet im from ND too, i think you made a good choice for these ND winters, and as for what dobyken said those are a good few items to keep your eye on. i got mine with 71,000 on it and the lower intake gasket went out on me almost instantly but so far thats it so i have my fingers crossed.

Yeah I guess I should know better than to compare the blazer to a car. lol I'm just surprised the blazer doesn't get much better mileage than my full size lifted truck with 33's. Either way I still enjoy it.

Redneck, I see you're from Bismarck. I am too. I'll have to keep an eye on the top end, did you notice loss of coolant or did you see pooling in the engine bay when you lost your lower intake gasket?

I just spent 4 hours last night clay baring the whole vehicle, and I hope to wax it this weekend. Should look like brand new. Sad thing is I plan to use this vehicle off road quite a bit so it probably wont last.

i noticed it when my coolant level began to drop every quickly but lucky for me is was just an external leak, it never started dripping on the ground because it was running on to the headers, and would just evaporate right away.
