NO 4HI, Just 4LO and 2HI!!! and Converting pushbutton into floor shift 4x4

Heres the deal... Ive replaced the T-case motor and TCCM. whenever i unplug the new TCCM and plug in the old one It will work perfect and go into 4hi 4lo and back to 2hi but only one time and faults back to the same old 4lo and 2hi only. then ill unplug the old TCCM and plug in the new one it does the same thing, 4hi 4lo and back to 2hi but only one time and faults back to the same old 4lo and 2hi only. i know from having the TCCM uplugged it resets the default codes...BUT theres more..i hooked up the old t-case motor and did the same thing with the TCCM's and got the same results..so with that being said i dont think it ever was the t-case motor or the computer, what elses could it be???? so damn confused with this thing right now. my next step is to replace the 4x4 switch on the dash. then if that dont work im gonna machine the gear on thd old t-case motor that turns the tcase into 4x4 and 2hi and fabricate a lever system and install a classic floor shift for it...the hell with push button crap..Always fails and always will...if anyone can help please post something..and if anyone has converted their pushbutton into a manual shift let me know what you did.

I would start with the DIY article on what the TCCM is actually stating as the failure point.

There have been a few problems reported recently with cold solders in the switch itself, but that has normally been accompanied by erratic lights on the switch. The switch should be able to be disassembled and checked for cold solders.

One other things is the condition of the wires and connections at each of the components. Corrosion in the TCCM connector has been an issue that I have seen in the past.

One thing that I don't think anyone considers is that there may be resistance in the transfer case either due to corrosion or some other form of binding that is overloading the encoder motor. The TCCM reads the power draw for a gear change and can stop working if it sees too high of a draw.

Not that this really applies, but on my old '97 Ram 4x4 (with manual linkage), the 4wd worked great all summer long, then the first day of snow, the linkage froze up. Turned out to be corrosion on the case causing binding with a plastic bushing/seal. I couldn't FORCE the thing into 4wd it was froze up so hard. And I had just used it not even 2 weeks earlier. Some emry cloth, a weekend, and a new plastic bushing ($2) later and it was working good as gold again. I lubed the shaft up good with grease before putting everything back together to keep it from corroding again, then sold the truck the next summer.

old thread but.... what happens to the shift points if the tcase is manually shifted? And are the cold solders you speak of in the dash switch? My switch lights seem to have a life of there own. I also saw a thread discussing a bad trans seal flooding the tcase affecting the encoder motor, ill have to check that, any thoughts?

Transmission shift points? Likely nothing...

The encoder motor is sealed off from the rest of the transfer case. You would have to have two bad seals, the input seal and then the sector shaft seal, for anything to get to the encoder motor and even then, I doubt it would affect things.

I have the 4L60E transmission w/ the nv233 tcase, will this button-to-manual
shift conversion still work with this set up, or am i just better off replacing the encoder switch and motor assem and calling it a day? 90% sure the encoder switch is gummed up, and ive found assemblies online for $125-$150.

instead of fabbing a handle I recommend getting a 4x4 posi-lock kit you can find them cheaper than what they offer them for

My bad, i meant manually shift the tcase with a handle, like in the ZR2 how-to link from wolfpack. ive alraedy ditched the vac actuator.
