No "P" indicator, and wont start in Park, ONLY neutral

2000 Chevy Blazer 4X4

Went to a gas station and took out the key. Filled up, and got back in and the steering column was locked. Couldn't press the brake, and couldn't move the shift lever (on the steering column). After removing and reinserting the key a few times, the key finally turned, but wouldn't crank. Moved the shifter to neutral and it started fine, and ran fine. Got home and shifted into park, but car won't go into park and it started rolling. I can remove the key while the shifter is "supposedly" in park, but the transmission doesn't know it's in park, and again, it will roll. There is no lighted indicator around the "P". There is lighting around the R, N, D, 2,& 1.
I need to use the emergency brake to stop the car from rolling away every time I turn off the car.
Any ideas??

Thanks in advance

I would go underneath and try to manually click the truck into park. There is a little lever that the cable connects to that you can turn to manually click into gear.
If there is resistance not allowing you to click it to the park position, unhook the cable and then try.

Make sure to set the e-brake and chock the wheels before climbing underneath.

Awesome.. I went under the car and just barely pulled it (it moved that little bit easily), and the car started right up. What would be my next course of action. Is there an adjustment or is my cable shot?

I went into the car and the "P" was lit up and it started. I put it into Drive and back into park and the lighted indicator was gone. Had to do it manually again. It feels like the cable doesn't have enough strength to push it over that last click to get it into park

My guess is the cable is shot. I've never noticed an adjustment on the cable, but then again I've never actually had reason to look for one.

Check where the cable hooks to the lager and make sure it is fully clipped on first, if it's loose on there it could cause an issue that would be easy to fix.

For $45, I just ordered a new one. The cable just can't seem to push the lever forward enough to get over the click into park. Manually it will as pretty simple
