No pressure in cooling system, normal engine temp

Hello,
I hope somebody can point out a cause for these symptoms. I'm out of ideas, except maybe that are is air in the cooling system. Read on...

For some time (since even before changing the t-stat) my cooling system has seemed to keep the engine at the proper temperature and run properly except that the upper radiator hose would always be soft when running. Then I had the Dex-sludge problem and it started running w/ the temp gauge at 145. I flushed the system and put in a new t-stat. Everything was back to normal except I don't think there was pressure in the upper rad. hose.

Recently the water pump started leaking a lot. Just got it replaced and put a new radiator cap on. Again, seems to work fine but no pressure in the upper rad. hose. I have always had heat too.

Any ideas what could be causing this? I have driven 20 miles since the water pump and 8 since the radiator cap and the coolant was full then. Could there really still be air in there?

Thanks in advance peepz!

Update: It seems like a new radiator cap did fix it after all...seems to hold pressure today. I didn't drive too far on it though. I will update again after I get more miles with it...
