Oil leak back of motor? 2002 blazer 4.3
 

02 blazer LS 2dr 4x4. Have a oil leak that seems to be heading down the rear passenger side motor. Starter and tranny on passenger side is a mess. I went up top and reached my hand down behind distributor as much as possible and with my fingers I could feel a gasket that actually felt like rtv just under the the distributor. Not the round hole it goes in but I’m assuming it’s the intake gasket? Anyway while touching it I could here the wet sound when trying to squish at it and my finger tips had fresh oil on them. Would it be a intake gasket leaking the oil back there? Also oil has no signs of any water or fuel in it.

The rear and front of the lower intake manifold is sealed to the block with RTV.

So oil could leak there.

I guess it could although it is not under any pressure there. Could it be the valve cover gasket?

Have you taken a mirror and visually checked there is no coolant mixed in with it?

Oil pressure sending unit is also a possibility. it is located just to the driver's side of the distributor.

I’ll inspect it a little better after work. It really hard to see anything back there on these things lol. I know when underneath I could see wet oil heading up towards the distributor area but again couldn’t see to far. Only runs down the passenger back side of motor possibly near center area and onto passenger side of tranny. Driver side is nice and dry

Did you ever find the source of the leak? I've got the exact issue, exact vehicle. Passenger side rear of the motor...and 0 oil pressure. No knocking or ticking but oil is all over the drive way and starter. Oil pressure switch feels dry, on drivers side of the block. Would a valve cover gasket result in 0 oil pressure? ( on the gauge ). Could the upper intake seal to lower intake go bad? Thanks, Guys.

1. Check the oil level.
2. Check the oil for water residues (if they're in, oil has a consistency and look of a butter). If You find it, then it's the coolant with oil. Mostly the gasket. I doubt it, as You say You have 0 LOP (but again p.1, maybe the oil is out)
Generally clean the engine block with a rag and see where the fresh oil drips are forming. Apart of the:

• top valve covers (oil there is unpressurized, like Christine already said), You also have the
• crankshaft sealing that is inside the bell housing (hell yeah, this one has a crankshaft bearing right after, is pressurized and may blow Your oil much faster) and the
• oil pressure sensor (like Les said).

My '02 is leaking oil from the rear main seal and front cover....only way to fix is to remove transfer case, transmission and drop front axle down a bit to get oil pan off.....wanna trade?
