Default Oil pan

If while still in my Blazer with intake and heads removed is it possible to Jack the block high enough to remove oil pan? It’s a 2001 with automatic.

Just get a hoist, a stand, and a place to work on it. Nothing good will ever come by trying to work on the bottom of the engine while in the car.

If a 4WD, the front diff has to come out in order to get the oil pan off, just not enough space there.
Why do you want to remove the oil pan?

I just want to be clear on this. You are saying that the oil pan can be taken off with the front diff taken out of the way and nothing else has to be removed to get the oil pan off? I hope that is the case because I think I've got an oil pump going out.

You've probably got excessive clearance on your bearings. I've seen one bad oil pump in 40 years and it was locked up tight with a little piece of wire brush run through it.

If engine is making noises (like clacking valvetrain at idle or hammering on acceleration) and has oil pressure below 20 at 600 rpm, just pull it and figure out why.

Thank you for your detailed reply but you did not actually answer my question, which was and is can the oil pan be removed after removing only the front diff.?
I actually do know the signs of a failed oil pump, I would like to replace it without pulling the engine if at all possible, hence the question.
Thank you in advance.

Sorry to disappoint.

Very interesting that you changed your response from what you started with, by the way for a moderator your response was childish at best. Just for your information, even without any common sense (your opinion) I was able to successfully replace the oil pump by removing the front diff and oil pan and lifting the engine a couple inches today and it is now running very well again. It would be helpful if in the future you would just try to help others by answering their questions and maybe leaving your opinions out of it unless asked for them. Oh and when answering questions try just giving the facts and not what you think others need to hear as you stated in your deleted response.

If you are fortunate, you should be able to find threads on the forum that show that this can be done. I'm pretty sure it is possible. I've been wanting to deal with a leaky timing change cover for ages but it is just not worth the hassle of dropping the front diff to get at the oil pan.

To find such threads, try using both the forum search tool and use Google with the search terms you want and add "Blazerforum.com." Hopefully you can find your answer there.

BTW, what are the symptoms of an oil pump going bad? I'm not sure what those would be.

First off the symptoms I concluded were oil pump going bad started with sudden loss of oil pressure followed by valve train noise that was not there before the loss of oil pressure. At that point I shut it down and had it towed so as to not increase the damage.
Second I gave up asking after the answer I got and just tried it. After all if I don't try the answer is always no. I found that I was able to get the pan off as stated in my last post.
