RE: oil pump screen help
First things first. If the un-screened pickup tube is on the pump, measure the height (or depth depending on how you look at it) of the pickup base to the mounting surface on the pump. You will need to maintain this dimension. If it isn't , then you need to measure the pan depth and put the pickup tube about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch off the bottom of the pan. It isn't a difficult task, but not really a simple one either. Too close or too far away and you could starve the engine of it's life blood.
Now onto the pressing it in. Take the pickup tube and put it in your freezer. Then take the pump and put it into boiling water. Do not heat the pump with a torch as you can screw up some of the internal seals/gaskets in the pump. Once each one has been thuroughly cooled/heated, press them together. You can do this by gently clamping down the pickup tube in a vise and manually pressing the pump body on to it, trying to keep the alignment and overall depth. You may have to do this multiple times, but having the pickup tube cold and the pump body warm should make it a light press that will get tighter once the peices get to the same temp.
Good Luck
