overheating alternator wire

I have a 1996 blazer that i lost all electrical to. I managed to get power back but the wire leading from the alternator, fuesable link to red wire, to the electrical block on the right hand side of the car begins to heat up as soon the battery is placed in the blazer. I was wondering if it is possible to just bypass the hot wire by running a jump wire to the electrical block? Does any body have a diagram that shows were the wires from the alternator go or tips to track the possible short?

I see from your other thread you changed the alternator, if your sure it was re-connected correctly you might want to take it out and get it bench tested. Not such a great idea to jump wires without a fire extinguisher.

Yes as mentioned above get it field tested. Voltage regulator inside may be junk. Now is a good time to do the big 3 upgrade also.

If it was a rebuilt one,can almost guarantee a bad regulator! when a rebulit costs $75 and a new one is $125-Why buy rebuilt?

Fixed the hit wire turns out the fusible link was causing it to over heat dont know why the link didnt break..I cut it out replaced it and seems to have solved the problem. The problem know is the motor spins but i cant get any spark? We checked the coil wire and there is no spark not sure whats causing this. There is a red wirde beside the battery coming from the harness that not connected to any thing. Does this wire power the pcm?
