i cant get the 4x4 on my blazer to work. when you press the button you hear the clicking, and feel the clunk but the front wheels will not turn. though the front drive shaft will still turn. so far i have replaced the switch on the transfer case, and replaced pretty much all the vacuum lines that could possibly be causing the problem. but none of it has helped. any suggestions you have will help, thanks!!

 

Did you replace the vacuum actuator underneath of the battery tray? If that is bad, it would cause the front wheels to not engage.

 

well i took the battery and the tray out to get to the actuator, then jumped the blazer, and had my friend try to switch it into 4x4 and the actuator looked like it was working. could it still be bad?

 

The cable that engages the front axle (runs from the actuator down tot he front axle) has to be able to pull out anywhere from 1/2-1 inch. One of the best ways to check to make sure it is pulling out enough is to pull it out as far as you can and then lock it off with a pair of vice grips. Then see if you have 4WD. If when you pull it out and lock it off an you have 4WD, you'll need a new vacuum actuator

On a side note, have you had any problems with the HVAC, or really with it acting wierd, because if so, that would denote a vacuum problem, but you seemed to check all of that, just another thought

 

mine had the same problem....so i replaced the actuator with a pull cable from napa that i pull and lock in the cab.

 

OH yea, forgot about that fix totally, thanks for adding that. I know for a fact there is a thread on here that explains that fix in great detail with pictures and all

well i tried pulling the cable leading from the actuator and vice gripped it. but stilll no 4x4. could there be an electrical problem?

 

There is a shift fork located inside the front axle, although, I do not know how to check that. If it isn't engaging, that could be causing your problem, but that is beyond my knowledge of the 4WD system.

 

You may want to move this over to the Steering, Suspension and Drivetrain section, this would qualify for that, and maybe someone who frequents that sections would be able to give you more help, just a thought
