Possible hood release cable broken

I have a 1997 Blazer. The hood release cable is not being pulled back in to the latch mechanism. I believe that the cable either slipped off or it broke. The cable is still resisting me from pulling too hard though. I need help on how to open my hood manually from outside the car. If you need pictures I can take some to show what is happening.

I would have to go look at mine, but i think you can reach up through the grill with a u joint, socket and an extension. Believe it is a 13mm. First try pushing down on the hood first and having someone pull the handle, when the pull the handle pull up on the hood. These latches get sticky and difficult to release which causes broken cables. I would suggest frequent lubrication

tap the hood on the passenger side right corner do it a few times and you hood should bounce open, this is what I have to do every so often

If there is still resistance than most likely the spring that pulls it back is either warn or broken. Same thing happened to mine.
