Default power to fuel pump problem

Well the story is i shut my truck off in a parking lot to talk to my friend then about 20 minutes later i go to start it back up and notice the pump didnt kick on when i turned the key to run then i turned it over and of course it didnt start. I checked the fuse and it was good so i listened for the relay and i heard it click on then click off so that was good. So i crawled under my truck and when the key was turned to run i heard a click coming from the front of the gas tank area so i figured it was the pump.

So today i replaced the fuel pump with a Delphi pump, i know i should have checked for power at the wires first but i know my pump was going out going out anyways so i just changed it. After changing the pump it didnt run so i know theres no power going to it.

So my question is whats next? Wiring isnt my strong point so bare with me. In doing my research i found that there shouldnt be more than 10 ohms resistance in the ground, so if theres more then i have a bad ground? In that case does anyone know where the fuel pump is grounded to?

Also i guess before i jump to a conclusion, since i hear the relay working my problem has to lie in between the wiring from the relay to the pump? or where does the power go after the relay?

Thanks in advance!

Edit: i tried finding a wiring diagram on here but i could only find posts on 98+ and i know the wiring diagram is different. (or at least i think)

I'd say check the ground first and then if that isn't the problem you can look forward to tracing the wires to the relay. Start with the simple things first and work your way to the harder stuff.

Yeah first ill start by switching the relay because i realized just because it clicks doesnt mean the pump side of the relay isnt burnt.

But would you have any idea where the ground for the pump wiring is? Theres a wire that goes into a clip on the middle cross member in front of the tank and i heard it could also be on the rear cross member. But ill go check it out today

Thanks for the reply

Edit: ok well I feel stupid... I went and switched the relays and nothing. So I went and found the ground wire on the rear cross member and saw that it was a little loos and covered in dirt so I undid the bolt sanded the frame pretty clean, put the bolt back it tightened it down and it fired right up.

Live and learn.
