Precautions for removing Charcoal Canister
 

I'm troubleshooting a P0440 CEL on a 2000 blazer 2wd 2door w/ 98K, and I've already replaced the gas cap, so I've been told to check the Charcoal Canister. I see there are 2 lines that say "flammable" on them, and two hoses.

Any precautions I should take when removing those, other than the obvious of don't smoke a cigarette while doing it?

Will fuel come out when I remove those?

How can I tell if the charcoal canister is the issue?

yeah.. no flames no sparks.
Dont be directly under it.. work at arms length.

Turn upside down, nothing comes out. Other than a little gas.
{Edit: should be no gas in healthy system}

Probably not oyur problem, if your didnt have previous issues, driveability problems
. Kinked lines, broken lines. inop purge vent, bad purge valve, broken front tank vent.. the list goes on. The code is cause by the PCM not seeing a vacuum signal from tank pressure sensor.. a LOT of territory.

I have a hard time thinking its a kinked line or something, because I drive it very easy, and only to work and home.

Like you said, yeah, I haven't noticed any drivability issues. Pettyfog...would you start with the purge solenoid (by the ICM?) or the vent solenoid (attached to the canister?).

Havent done it read a lot. vent valve held open, easy to remove and test should close with 12v.

Here is the connector at the PCM.. pin 2 white wire ohm the valve, then check there to, should read 12v with key on.
Note.. the 12v is on the other side of sol coil from fuse ENG 1 underhood

note also pin 25. output of the tank pressure sensor

Take shop vac to fuel filler, vent valve line plugged. check reading.

Pin 2 of C3, {clr or gray or natural}.. is the purge valve control. should also read 12v with key on

There should not be any liquid fuel in any of the lines to or from the canister, or in the canister itself. As pettyfog mentioned, P0440 encompasses a ton of parts. Fuel tank, fuel tank pressure sensor, fuel pump module O ring, fuel filler neck, fuel fill cap, purge solenoid, vent solenoid, all wiring between all that stuff, the PCM, all vapor lines to and from the engine & canister, and the canister itself. P0440 is a malfunction in the EVAP system, not necessarily the purge solenoid or vent solenoid.
