So I was under the hood earlier, checking fluids and whatnot, when I came across a random loose wire. I have no idea what it is and why it is not connected to anything. I have a 1998 4dr 2wd, 4.3L V6. I would appreciate any help and advice because loose wires always make me nervous, especially when I have no idea what they're for.

kinda weird. I wonder if the AC pressure switch was faulty at some point and someone bypassed the switch. it doesn't look like factory wiring IMO.

 

Indeed that is not factory. Possibly a ground? I would see witch wire its connected too.

 

I'm thinking it has something to do with the A/C because I have A/C problems, whenever I get time this week I'm gonna try to trace the wire. I just hate loose wires, never know what kinda problems they will cause.

 

the little AC pressure switch is notorious for failing.

 

if the problem was the pressure switch, is it an easy or cheap fix?

 

The 2 small wires coming out of the splitloom, going to the cycling switch, are factory. The other one, with the bare wire, should not connect to either one of the small ones.

 

Easy to replace. IF that's your problem. The switch sences the pressure of the system. If there's a leak that's the switch that will shut down the AC system.

 

if I can, should I remove that wire? I mean, I have the capability to do it, but should I bring it to a mechanic to do it? I can do a lot, I just hate A/C work.

 

Remove the tape and post an image showing how it is connected.
