Random Miss, No power

96 Blazer 2 door 4wd 83K

I just bought this vechicle, had a new motor 1000 mi ago , the owner said it ran up untill a month ago, then died, and was towed to the shop where they said it might be a vaccume leak he elected to sell as he had too much money in the car.

What I know so far, starts, barely idles, lots of misfires, when I remove a plug wire one at a time there seems to be no change, when under no load I can get the rpms up and it seems to smooth out, as soon as it is under load it misses terribly, fires up thru the intake.
The exahust smell like it's running rich.

I have codes:
P0102
P0300
P0700
P1100

The monitor staus is as follows:

Ready: misfire, fuel system, comp components, o2 sensor heater

Not ready: Catalyst, Evap system, O2 sensor, EGR

The check engine light on the dash is not working.

I'm looking for a place to start, I know 2 of the codes are related to MAF sensor, but can the MAF cause these drivability issues??

Thanks for any help
Roland

The MAF sensor can definitely cause driveability concerns. It is one of the main sensors used by the PCM to calculate the parameters used for proper engine operation. You can start by cleaning the MAF sensor. The MAF can cause all of these codes!

Also, check out the DTC charts for your first two codes listed below:
P0102 - Mass Air Flow Sensor Circuit Low Frequency
P030x - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

I cleaned the MAF, reset the ecm, still runs the same
Codes still there:
P0300
P0700
P1100

My daughter will be by in the next couple of days, she has a van with the same sensor, i'll try hers see if that changes things.

Thanks for your help.

unplug it!

i had the same problem,i was told to unplug it . so i shut it off and unplugged it,started it and took it for a drive and it ran fine.the only problem i had was that the trany shifted hard, but when i put a new one in it was back to normal.the maf i used was from a 97 olds cutlass the guy at the parts store gave me a web site that told me the different cars that have the same part, but i can not remember the site. i hope this helps

Put a new cap and rotor on cleared up the random misfires, only have the p0700, not worried about that that will not make fail emmissions
