really loud fuel pump whine?

okay guys so i have a 01 blazer lt 4x4 and the fuel pump is really loud that everybody asks me what that noise is and its kind of annoying also, truck starts on a dime everytime and runs perfect. could this be a sign that fuel pump might be going bad soon or is there a way to get it to stop making that horrible noise?

As far as I know chevy fuel pumps have always been loud

Mine was loud for about a year before it started going out on me. Got a new one put in, and no more whining.

For what it's worth my 98 Blazer's fuel pump had a medium-pitch whine every day of it's 15 year life. The new ACDelco fuel pump in there now has a higher pitch whine. Engine always started right up, still does.

Okay I hope you don't mind me bumping this thread but I just bought my girl this last week and I think I am experiencing the same thing. She is a 1999 Blazer LS, and when I start her up she has a low whirring noise coming from right behind the rear drivers wheel. Sometimes it will last a while and sometimes it quits after a few minutes. It may start back up after 30 or 40 miles but is is pretty much off and on all the time i am driving her. Is this the area the noise is coming from on your vehicles too?
Thanks

Hey PrecioustoHim....thought of an idea for something to try; not sure if the '99 Blazer has the fuel pump test lead or terminal, but you could apply +12V to this lead/terminal and then listen if this is the same noise or not.

You could also just be at the right rear and have another turn the ignition key to ON, but this only provides power to the fuel pump for 2 seconds. The test lead/terminal will leave the pump running for as long as power is applied.

Well, okay but where is the ....fuel pump test lead or terminal located?
Well I am all alone but as soon as a second person is available I will give that a try. Thanks

This is one of many threads where the captain talks about the fuel pump test port.

On my '95, there is a lone wire with a female end on it sticking out of some other wires on the driver side wheel well. That's the test port on mine, but I think in '96 it changed to this.

Guy at the Chevy dealer checked it out for me today and he says it is normal.
