really strange wiper issue

As I drove to work this morning it was raining, I had my Wipers on. About halfway to work, my drivers side Wiper acted as though it became disconnected from whatever set up runs them as it began flopping randomly about, getting stuck in the other Wiper(which functions perfectly) or sliding out to rest on the side mirror housing. When I got to work, I was able to deposition the wiper in its default position but it still acts as if not connected to anything. I just got the vehicle back from the body shop friday (I got run up onto a curb) and the repairs involved removal of the drivers side fender. Any chance that could have some sort of impact?

sounds like the bolt that holds the arm onto the linkage just backed off a little. it is a 13mm nut that presses the arm down onto a ribbed cone. if the nut backs off just a little, the cone will spin freely in the arm causing the "Flop" you are talking about.
Not sure if the body shop would have messed with this unless they had to remove the cowl to get at bolts that hold on the fender.

right you are! pried the plastic cover off (in the rain) and tightened down the bolt...all better now! thanks!
