Rear diff help
Hey everybody...I was getting ready to pull the rear diff cover and lube but I noticed there may be a leak coming from the drivers side of the diff. What do you think?

Thanks, I didn't even think about a new cover
meh i wouldnt worry about it.
Just get a new cover. there is 2 covers, one for a 7.5 and the 8.5. chances are u have the 7.5. hit up autozone etc. have em order both. then see if you can take em outside and compare.

That's just up-splash from the gasket leak.
DO NOT USE A NEW GASKET. Use Black RTV Silicone and bead it around the diff cover. Be sure the surface is clean on both sides, and all old gasket material is gone. If you suspect that your diff cover is bent, you can straighten it with a small hammer, and a flat surface.

I'm not saying anything is wrong with rtv (I've used it in the past myself) but please explain WHY NOT TO UsE A NEW GASKET! If you properly clean the surfaces, use a new cover, and torque it to spec in an even alternating pattern a gasket will work just fine.
