Default Rear Wiper?

Hey guys I have a 1999 Blazer Base Model. It doesnt have the rear wiper of defrost option but I was wondering if its possible to ADD a rear wiper somehow. Its been really rainy here in michigan and not having a wiper is killing me! Would i have to replace the whole back hatch (tailgate style)? and try to find a hatch that has the rear wiper or is there a way to put it in my tailgate as is. Let me know if this sounds like a project i should not mess with either.

Probably not worth it...I'd just use Rain-X! You'd probably have to compare a wiper hatch with a non-wiper hatch to see if all mounting points exist in the non-wiper. I would guess (and this is just a guess) as to say both hatches are the same, just with one having a punched out hole in the outer sheet metal. As for the wiring, you may have to run wiring and a wiper switch. If you want a rear sprayer, you may need a different window wash reservoir that has a second pump and the associated plumbing. That's why it just doesn't seem worth it, but that's just one opinion... to you, it might be though. If you can find a donor vehicle in a salvage yard, it would allow you to compare the two. If your vehicle already has the wiring in place (you can take the inner panel off the rear hatch to check) it will be that much easier.

my dad has had 3 gen 2 S-blazers, all with rear wipers, all 3 have been siezed/not working the entire time hes had them (i have his '97 now) ive never tried to get mine going again, its either a common issue that they dont stay working for very long or its quite a coincidence that the '95, the '97 & the '03 have never had working rear wipers when dad got them.

Yeah, for some reason, GM makes some weak rear wiper motors! Either the nylon gear strips out, or the motor just goes kaput! My fiancee's Pontiac Torrent (same as an Equinox) had the motor fail after only a 2-3 years.
