Rear Wiper Stuck in cradle
 

Hey guys.

Info: 1997 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4Door.

Had this issue since I bought the truck. Rear wiper gets stuck in the cradle that holds the arm when it's off. When I use the switch to turn it on, there's a loud noise of the motor trying to move the wiper but failing. If I go around back and give the wiper a tap or gently move it in any direction, it'll suddenly move and operate fine and dandy, as if there was no issue to begin with. Second I turn it off and let it go back into the cradle? Gets stuck again.

Working theory is that the little tab on the wiper arm, or the cradle bit itself, has somehow gotten rough over the years and they no longer slide easily over each other. Anyone ever had this issue and found a solution? I'd really like my rear wiper working, as midwestern rainstorms make it impossible for me to see out the back.

maybe silicone sleeve or Vaseline both parts? Something less ugly than actual white lithium grease? or check to see if the Cradle is bent up slightly...like it got tinked in a parking lot. otherwise I would probably hand sand them smooth and clear coat them both. just me...

Just to update:

I ended up removing my rear wiper arm as a test, and found the motor still spun and worked fine without the arm on it. Went to a junkyard to pick up a new-to-me arm, and aftetr installation, arm works fine. But if I move it too close to the body, it gets stuck and acts like it did. Thinking maybe the spring on the original arm was pulling it too tight or something against the cradle.

Anywho, Rear wiper is working now. Not sure if this will help anyone else.

The gears inside the motor are plastic and broken. Need a new motor/wiper set up

Another Update:

Wiper stopped working yet again. Bit the bullet and bought a brand new arm, but the motor still won't let the arm go more than like... 45* before it gets stuck and move without outside assistance.

So yeah. Wiper motor is next on the list.
