Recline handle broke off

Ok so I have done a little searching and realize that due to the cheap ass parts used this breaks all the time on people. Well I finally broke the handle on my fiances Blazer drivers seat. The metal broke off, I bought a "repair handle" from Murrey whens we were there earlier and got home realining that the way it broke makes it so that this won't fix it. Is there any way to fix this when you have broken off all of the splined portion of the shaft and ever on one half about hald down the non-splined section? If anyone has a good idea or common fix without just replacing the whole seat I woudl appreciate it.

Yes, you can replace the out board seat recliner, and you'll find it's not a "cheap ass part"...lol Any GM dealer will have them, but they redesigned the part, so you have to replace the handle and the recliner. You also have to partially remove the seat covers to replace it. And honestly, They break all the time for improper use. My Blazer has 136,000 miles and has had 4 diferent drivers over the course of it's 10 year life and never broken either one. You have to make sure you're not leaning on the seatback when you pull the recliner handle, and it will last forever.

Yeah my seat handles are all intact, too, andBob is13 years old.I dunno about the previous owners but I never recline my seats...so maybe that has something to do with it. If I wanna lay down I go to bed, LOL!

Mine is broken also. I can't speak on if it is from misuse, as I got the blazer with it already broken. I have a vice grip on it, and that works fine. I don't really keep it on there all the time, since I am the only one that drives and I don't have a need to readjust.

I found a fix for this on a ZR2 site. But if you do it wrong like happened to me the fix will only be partially effective....

Here is the link to the fix....NOTE: believe me when it says to drill slowly so not to heat up the glue....I could not keep the glue from heating up and the fix only works partially....but good enough for me though...

Brent it should be no problem to drill out the hole one size larger there is enough metal there to do that and the hole in the handle should also have enough room....

This is a common problem with GM's S series trucks. This happened to my 98 Blazer as well.
There is a good replacement for this from the link below and doesn't require any special tools or dismantling on the seat. Cost is about $35.00.

RE: Recline handle broke off

I had this happen on my 96 S-10 and it was already broken on the 98 Blazer I just bought.

I have a lathe so I turned a sleeve that goes over the recline adjuster shaft and slips into the handle. I cross drilled the handle to accept a 6-32 screw. I used red locktite to hold it onto the seat shaft.

If any of you are interested I could make up a few and sell them for a reasonable amount. You can reuse your old handle and I'll supply the sleeve and instructions. How about $20 shipped?

Send me an email if you are interested.

Thanks,

Chris
