why spend all that money when 2 small pairs of vicegrips do the same thing?

i'd prefer to have levers instead of vice grips..

i think i ended up getting the more expensive ones with the set screw and they sucked.

Buy 2 small pliers that lock and put them on each side. If you buy new ones they will just bust anyway. I have seen tons of trucks with same issues so its a GM thing and very common.

Yes, but what if you need the vise grips for something else? I've used the vise grips on my 56 F-100 pickup for the window cranks. LOL

That deserves a facepalm ... Not like you cant buy those parts, is it. Where are the restorers getting them?

Lowes had mini visegrips for about 2 bucks several months ago.. Howe could you miss that?

i took a old socket (sry dont remember size) i hammered it on what was left of the shaft not much. drilled a small hole in the center of the shaft took a screw and washer to hold the socket on then i welded a old wrench i had laying around to it
