Reliability 1997
 

Hey! I read all these nightmares that you folks have with these units-explain why then I have have none of the headaches with the electrics,suspenion and fuel issues! I have a 97 and has performed great in 14 states-plus local driving- totally rellablebut I still see these units on the street! Why do I keep it going? Because I keep it going!

for all the beatings my blazer takes I haven't had any problems with mine other than off road breaks. not all blazers break all the time, its just most of the people who have lemon blazers are posting in here, most people don't post how reliable their trucks are so you are reading the handful of people who have tons of problems but you will get that with any vehicle.

The most major thing I've had happen to mine is I had to replace the water pump. You might be getting a distorted view from looking at problems here on the forum. GM sold a butt load of Blazers and Jimmy's and there are still lots of them out there running around with no major issues.

Interesting responses! Actually,haven't been to services for 2 weeks as I work Sunday mornings. I know of at least 6 Blazer/Jimmy units sitting! Just in my county alone!
Every time I have seen an individual at the house I've stopped and offered to buy the unit-turned down everytime! And its the usual intake,fuel system,transmission excuses!

I havent had any issues with mine. Accept now my fuel pump is heading south on me. That's about it tho. These trucks are tough.

Ive owned a 99 jimmy, a 97, 98 and 2000 blazer. I paid $1000 for the 97, - over heating issues (replaced plugged radiator.) The 2000 i paid $500 for it - needed a tune up so bad it wouldnt start. The 98 i paid $617 - needed a fuel pump and door hinges. The 99 I bought many years ago for my wife. Thats the only one I didnt get dirt cheap.

I agree that not many people will write in a forum that their truck is trouble free. Vehicle are machines. they all eventually break. Some sooner than others.

The only problems I've ever had were caused by me and the way I drive. They are well built SUVs.

Mine is an 84 and still going granted I have had to replace some of the steering and suspension parts and a few other minor things here and there but everything on the car was original.

Something to keep in mind....Certian parts are going to wear out no matter what. It doesnt make it a bad design. Seals wear, bearings wear. If these trucks were breaking in half going down the road or bursting into flames in your garage during the middle of the night I would consider it a nightmare vehicle. People complain about fuel pumps, distributer caps and rotors, front wheel bearing and door hinges. Except for the door hinge design, you should consider all of these parts consumable. They will wear out and you will replace them eventually even if you call it a Ford, Chrysler, Toyo or Nissan. If you dont enjoy working on your vehicle as much as it seems 90% of the people on here do, go down the road and trade the Ole Girl on a leased vehicle. At the end of the lease its still under warranty and all you should have had to do is change oil. But that comes at the price of a monthly payment and absolutely no satisfaction of fixing it yourself. I am stepping of my soapbox now, I feel much better. LOL. Working nights causes a guy to go off the deep end every once in a while!
