Remove Door Panel
I have to remove the door panel on my 1998 Chevy Blazer 2 dr to replace the speaker which has failed.
I found some step by step instuctions online on how to do this, but I'm not sure about getting the clip off the window crank. Is a special tool needed for this? Has anyone accomplished removing the window crank handle? I'm not sure how sliding a towel between the crank and the door panel will release a clip - can it be done that way? Any other things I should be aware of while removing the door panel? It's in perfect shape - don't want to mess up a good thing. Thanks. |
RE: Remove Door Panel
There is a special tool for it. Sometimes you can do it with a screwdriver, depends if you can see it or not. Never tried the towel trick.
I use a long prybar to remvoe the door skins, I can get it next to each one of those plastic clips that hold it in place, no biggy if you detroy the plastic clip, most auto parts stores sell new ones in the help section. |
RE: Remove Door Panel
The towel trick:
Remove window crank: *NOTE - There is a trick to this. Use the edge of a towel, inserted between the door panel and crank. Work the towel back and forth, this may release the clip. Some occasions, a pick tool is needed between the door panel and crank to release clip or a window clamp tool. Clip released, remove. Remove widow crank, immediately insert clip onto window crank. You will not loose the clip this way and the window crank will snap back on during reinstallation.
