Replacing driver's window motor?
 

Worth it to do myself or take it into Chevy and have them do it. I've got a buddy who says he'll help me after the holidays. He said we just have to drill out the rivets and such and that it's not too hard but may take a few hours. Anyone try this? Worth saving money as a do it yourself or just too much of a pain in the ass?

If you're going to do it yourself, buy a brand new motor...they're not that expensive. I can tell you what I paid for mine when I check my files at home. I don't recommend getting one from a yard...EVERYONE tells me that's a bad idea with window motors.

I sent mine to my mechanic instead of getting a friend to do it (I don't really do much myself anyway...lack of garage, lack of enough knowledge to be brave enough to try), but maybe someone else that may have tried it in here could be a better judge on whether it's a pain in the ass or not.

If you trust your friend, I'd say go for it. If you couldn't be bothered, it doesn't take that long at the shop...but try to find someone that will let you bring your own parts and save yourself on the mark-up for the parts.

Make sure the window is all the way up. Then use duct tape (over the door jam) to hold it up while you remove the motor. Really simple to swap out. Can be done at home without too mcuh trouble.

Called my local Chevy Dealer. They said about $140.00 for the part and 2 hours of labor at $80 an hour. so about $300 if I take it in to Chevy. I think I'll do some more checking then I'll let everyone know what I decided.

If you can get an aftermarket motor it would be just as good as far as I'm concerned...and cheaper.
