Replacing rear axel wheel seal 2WD
 

How difficult is it to replace the rear wheel seals on a 2000 Blazer 2 wheel drive? Any help or advice would be much appreciated

It's a mess, but it's not difficult. Remove the differential cover, rear wheels, brake rotor or drum. Push both axles inward until they stop. Remove the retainer bolt:

Remove the "C" clips from the end of each axle, (one on each axle) and carefully pull the axles out. While the axles are out, do not turn the carrier. Replace the seals.

im curious Capt' what happens if you turn the carrier? i ask only because i need to replace the dust shields so i have to pull the axles.

It can make it more difficult to reinstall the axles due to the side gears moving out of position. No big deal really, just saves a headache if you don't turn it.

dont you have to remove the retaining bolt, then the steel pin between the axles, then push the axle in to remove the c clip?

Ha, good catch! As soon as I take the bolt out, the pin slides out and falls into the drain pan, splashes and makes mess, never fails!

mine got stuck between the casing and the carrier... what a b that was

Just replaced my seals a couple days ago... I forgot about removing the retaining bolt to get the center pin out of the carrier LOL.. finally figured it out..

Id recommend replacing the wheel bearings while you're in there. A lot of times the seal starts leaking because the bearing is on the way out. It will only add a few $$ to the job and is easy enough once you have everything apart.
