Rubbing Noise
 

Hi, when I corner left in my 2004 Blazer Zr2 I hear a rubbing, vibration, noise that seems to be coming from the wheels. The same thing happens when I occasionally stop after just starting to drive the car. The stopping version ends after the first few stops but happens everytime I corner left, especially at speeds of 30 to 40 MPH. Could this be an issue with the brakes? Could the wheel be rubbing? I am not sure what the options could be, Please Help.

First thing comes to mind is right front wheel/axle bearing - 'hub'.
Would have started as 'whirring' on left turns but you may not have noticed that if you have MT tires.

Usually manifests on left turns because of alignment toe-in wear patterns.

ALSO could be CV joints.

Why would it also happen when just stopping? And then go away. Also, I normally fix all my own stuff on the car but I dont know If I would want to get into fixing this stuff. How much would it cost to have the cv joints or the axle bearings replaced? Is that something you would have replaced on both sides or just one?

replacing the hub bearing is really easy, the hardest part is getting the axel nut off which is real easy with an impact gun but can be done by hand, the actuall bearing(hub) is only held on with 3 bolts from the back of the spindle, i highly recomend doing it your self to save on the labor charge. i did both of mine on my 98 in a little over an hour and a half. the cv axel is a little more involved but once the hub is off its not too bad, the cv would be more of a clicking sound when turning

So Im guessing that the rubbing noise is most likely due to my ball bearings going bad?

Did you have any issues with the speed sensor when your replaced yours?

But seriously folks.. the minimum heavy duty tools needed are a 36mm 1/2 dr socket and breaker bar, a pipe to fit over the breaker handle as a force multiplier. The rest can be done with 3/8 drive sockets but it get a little tough on the caliper bracket.

the new hub/bearing assembly comes with new sensors,if you follow the sensor wire up to the frame rail towards the front you will see a connector just unplug old and plug in new
