Rusted brake bleeder

Hey guys/gals

2 of my bleeder valves appear to be rusted on the caliper. I tried spraying it with penetrating oil but no go. I'm thinking of applying some heat and trying a 6 point deep socket to break it loose.

Are there any Internal orings where the bleeder valve is?

Should I not use a torch and just trying and break it loose with a deep socket?

There are o-rings in the calipers for the pistons.

I'd recommend the CRC Freeze Off. It works by rapidly cooling the metal and causes the corrosion to crack and allowing the penetrate. I'd try this first.

If you do apply heat, use extreme caution as brake fluid is highly flammable. If things get too hot and then you suddenly introduce brake fluid it could be disastrous.

:icon_ditto:

Also, there are a lot of other things you would likely not want to have the flame touch that are in the same area.

Here is a video for the CRC Freeze Off. It is also a lot less messy than PB Blaster.

Thanks I will have to order that crc freeze off on amazon, cant find any locally. I will not use heat if that is the case
Thanks, wish me luck and I'll update.

WD-40, liquid wrench and CRC knocker loose work well too. I think the key is to let it soak for a day If you can.

If you need your ride sooner, soak it with penetrating oil, put a set of vice grips tightly around it but not tight enough to crush it and tap the back of the vice grips with a hammer while trying to turn it out. if it works, bleed the brakes and retighten. Then go buy some bleeder valves and replace yours.

If that fails, take the caliper off, drain it well and heat the valve with a propane torch. I've also welded a nut to them and they break loose from the migs heat and the grip your getting on the nut.

I never kept the heat on it too long as I didn't want the heat to travel through the caliper.

I recently went through this and CRC Freeze off didn't work even with multiple applications and over night. I get the Freeze off at Advance Auto.

Two other things to try are smacking the caliper with a hammer and sometimes that will free it up. I used heat carefully and had success with letting wax melt into the threads.
