SES (Check Engine) Not Lighting

2003 Blazer ZR2 4WD 2-Dr Auto

I've been searching the forums but haven't found any info on this problem. The Blazer failed inspection due to the SES not flashing on at ignition. Was working fine as of a week ago because I finally cleared some evap codes. Is the SES tied in with the rest of the cluster in the fusebox? Could it be just the bulb or should I be looking somewhere else? All other gauges and lights are working fine. Any suggestions welcome.

So, on further fiddling, it appears that the problem is just intermittent. Sometimes it comes on with the key in the on position and at ignition, and sometimes it doesn't.

Think I would start with the SES bulb, see if it is loose....probably just replace it since the instrument cluster has to be removed to get to it. Not difficult to do, just need to be careful with the cluster, especially the clear lens....do not want to scratch it.

Also check the electrical connector where the harness connects to the cluster.

I take the cluster out about once a year to clean the dust from the inside surface of the clear lens and gauges face.

Thanks. False alarm. So today I learned that on most GMs, once the check engine light comes on once during the ignition indicator test, it will not come back on again until you turn the engine off, take the key out, open and close the door, then open it again and put the key back in to cycle the system. So if you sit there and keep turning the ignition on and off, the SES will not light again. The inspection station apparently was unaware of this too.

Hope you didn't get double charged for the inspection
