spare tire hoist
#11
Actually my cable snapped and my spare is in my back seat LOL!
I guess my main question is do I have to take of the rear bumper or my reese hitch reciever to take it off?
I hope to find one at one of the salvage yards around here.

i just did mine, i used a cutting torch to cut the cable through the wheel holes.
then i took my grinder and cut the brakets near the bumper, and unscrew the 2 bolts over the tire.
i reused the 2 bolt to hold a 12inch long - 1/2inch wide bolt with a big washer, then i welded 2 ''handles'' on the nut so i can remove it without tools. i reused the ''cup'' that fits inside the rim with a lock-washer for extra safety.
works really good but you have to lay on the ground to remove it...
cost : 6$ and 40mins.

Do you happen to have any pictures blazin?
I lost the cup that goes one end of the cable for mine so I would have to find something similar to use.

on my dads truck I cut the cable. Then i got it to release . After that i got 2 of those cable hooks the one that looks like a U with the 2 1/2 inch Nuts I forgot what there called but i added a plate with a hole in the center looped the cable about 6 inches . tightend those cable Us and boom lifted the tire to its original location.
Also make sure the plate is removable from the center of your rim
Imma find a picture of those U things Brb
Edit Here we go
I added 2 of the above product under the plate
I didn't use the loop thing tho http://www.homedepot.com/Tools-Hardw...atalogId=10053

xgio, do you have a pic of the set up? I think I sort of understand what you did, but not fully.
I will have to see if I can get my cable to lower tomorrow. The only thing is that if it snapped once, will it snap again?
It broke when the tire was at the top, so there should still be a decent amount of cable left if I can get a new way top hang the the tire from it and be able to detach it.

Thanks. The setup he has now has held up good then?
Would make alot more sense if you could replace the cable instead of the entire assembly.

i agree but i ended up just making my own tip for it and it held the tire great
i think you can release it if you spend some time with it i say spray it a lot it should release its self sooner or later

Hope I can just make my own end for now until I have time to change out the assembly.
Looking forward to the pic

Just went outside to take a picture it isnt a great one since it was poring rain out side but you can see what i did
I thought i made a plate for it but i ended up using the old holder for the rim.
you can always make a plate with a small hole in the center that the cable can fit threw make the loop then put those cable ties i said on the above posts . When you make the plate make sure it can be removed from the center of the rim .
I thought I did put 2 of those clamps but i only put one im going to drop it later on and add an other just to be safe
