I hear ya, "oopsie" just kinda happens sometimes lol! Where I live though it is illegal too have any kind of headlight, spotlight, off road light rear facing at the top of a vehicle. BUT it is perfectly legal too have receiver hitch lights...As long as they are mounted under the rear bumper AND you actually have a vehicle with a tow package lol...
I never stopped to ponder the legality of it. I better check that out before I drill holes lol

I don't know Texas laws per say but in Kentucky it is a "no no" lol! They also have some kind of side facing lights law I think??? Try too keep people from "spotlighting", hunting per say while driving down the road... Now a hand held spotlight is legal as far as I know... Man, now you got me thinking also, I better do some checking myself lol : )

Factory backup lights don't apply, reverse lights... I have never seen reverse lights on top of any vehicle though??? I must be honest, I am so far behind the times with these new vehicles that if someone told me, "she hovers, auto pilot, unsinkable, bulletproof, fireproof, waterproof, ect..." I would probably grin and say, "nice alien craft, how much did that set you back" lolllll.......Seriously though, backup, reverse lights are "legally" suppose too work on any vehicle if so equipped... I have never heard, as of just yet of anyone getting ticketed over non working reverse lights where I live. BUT it is 2019 now...

It kinda goes another way They ain't bulletproof nor unsinkable, but have so many gadgets (bloat) that work perfectly[1] till You drown Your ride several times in a mud or water ... Then it turns out they're neither waterproof nor unsinkable. A simple solutions based on carburetors without any electronic ECU has proven to be most reliable In a worst water scenario, You unscrew the plugs, turn the engine to blow the water out and You're ready to go. I wish to see that on a modern diesel engine
[1[ Depending on "perfectly" definition. Some electronic gadgets bloated cars spend half a time on the road, half a time in shop.
P.S. In Idaho the illuminated arrow nocks are banned. Everybody knows, that recovering the game is lot easier if You see less than You could.

I'm a fan of carbs and points, but you hydro lock any engine, it's probably not gonna turn out too well lol.
And it's hard to argue that modern cars aren't squeezing more power and mpg out of smaller engines than ever before.
I do miss driving my 73 chevelle as a younger man, though. Carb, points ignition, dead simple and reliable. I've been half tempted to throw a carb manifold and stand alone ignition on the Blazer! Probably mess with the trans though

You are not the only one who thought on it. But since my heads are two bolts per cylinder, not four, I've abandoned that idea And yes, transmission on reverse and 2nd/4th gear would probably quit pretty fast That would require interfacing a BMW M50 series diesel transmission, that can run over 1kHP.
Well, it was a chevelle, but it's not the muscle car you're thinking of! By 73 they had detuned the motors to get by epa regulations, and they were dogs. It would do a hell of a burnout, but that was it lol.
Here's how it sits now, at my dads:
If you're curious, that's his 62 Volvo behind it, and 74 FJ40 behind that
Memory lane... The car I truly miss is my Uncles 70 Buick GS, 455 stage 1... I remember him stopping by our house almost every Saturday night and bragging too his little brother, my Dad, about the money he wins drag racing... Beating Camaros, Chevelles, Mustangs, Cudas ect... Hard too believe that a car that heavy was truly as fast as it was....
