Takin out the tranny!!!

Default Takin out the tranny!!!

so i started to take it apart today, and i ran into a little question. i took off all the nuts and bolts on the bottom and sides, but my question is....are there any bolts/nuts on top of the transsmission?

Well, yeah, there are bolts on the top of the transmission...

OK well that guide looks helpful, but i have a 4x4 and is that alot diffrent job than taking out the 2wd?

ok well let me tell you my situation. The other day i was getting into my car put it and reverse doesnt work. blah blah blah. i have it in my garge, im taking it out right now. My question is where is the reverse gear located on the transmission and also do i have to take off the 4x4 part of the transmission? please let me kno ASAP

That guide is the process for removing the transmission from a 4x4 truck... The biggest difference is, your truck being newer, you won't have the linkages to the transfer case that Tim (hanr3) speaks of in that thread.

The transfer case will be taken off as described in the How-To.

About your problem, you most likely are experiencing the aftermath of a stripped reaction sun shell. This is used in reverse, 2nd, & 4th. This thread should help: 4L60E Tranny Rebuild Thread

ok so most likely the sun shell, how about this one? do i need to buy anything else for it or just this?

I do not know the mileage on the transmission in your truck, but personally, if it has over 75k miles of unknown use/abuse, I would do a full rebuild. You could just replace the sun shell and all of the seals/o-rings that were removed in the process. That is up to you.

ok well what rebuild kit would you guys reccommend? one that will have everything i need.

ok well i was looking at my tranny and i have a question, there is a part between my tranny and the transfer case, its about 4inches wide and goes all around. should i take that off with the tranny or leave it on?
