Default Thermostat Problem

Well my thermostat was sticking and threw a check engine light so I put in a new one along with a new seal. Now with the new one in there it doesn't even get up to the same temp as the old one that was sticky and the check engine light came back on. Did I do something wrong installing the new one or could I have been unlucky and got a bad Tstat from the parts store? Thanks for any help.

Could be a failed coolant temp sensor on engine temp sensor too.

It's possible to get a bad t/stat if you bought it aftermarket. It's also possible that you didn't get all the air out of the system.
What was the code when your check engine light came on?

You can try unplugging the battery for a half hour and let the computer reset itself and see if that helps but expect it to run ****ty for about 10/20 minutes afterwards ??

I'm not sure what the code is I have it written down at my appartment.. It was definatly a sticky thermostat thought the engine wouldn't heat up above 170deg and you could tell by pulling on the old one that it was sticky. The new one is an aftermarket one. Would not getting all of the air out of the system really cause it to do this? I thought air in the coolant lines made it run hotter? Is there anything else I could have done wrong when installing it? Thanks.

Alright well I took it out today to find out that the seal had fallen off of the thermostat. Got it back on and made sure it stayed on this time when I put it back in and it's working perfect now
