Ticking/Chirping Engine?

Hey y'all. New here. My wife has a '95 BlaZER 4.3 that I love! Anyway, the question regaurds my mom's though. She has a 2001 4x4, 4.3 auto. Ticking/chirping proportionate to engine rpm. I think it is the harmonic balancer(seems to wobble a bitwhen running), it also sounds like coming from the starter. With the belt off, it is fainter, but still there. Anybody had this problem? Any help would be appreciated. I am going to look at it tomorrow and try to diagnose it. Thanks

RE: Ticking/Chirping Engine?

Ok. Fixed it. IT was the starter. The bendix is supposed to suck back into the starter after starting, but this one was flopping around and contacting the flywheel. Especially uphill and under a load. Anyway, just wanted to let you guys know if you ever have that problem, although I have NEVER heard a starter do that. Later.

dont think thats it, starter would have overheaded locked up, and would not start nevert time,or striped out the gear. right?
