Timing chain quest
I did a search on IF the timing chain ever needs replacement and it seems no one ever comes right out and says "no" or "yes"(though it seems more like a 'no')
My Blazer is currently at 350,000kms with the original chain still rolling around in there.. so am i safe then? thanks. (1995 4.3) https://blazerforum.com/forum/showth...in+replacement |
30 views..did i perhaps put a snag in the old "there's no such think as
a dumb question"? I never had such a diffucult time getting a no or yes from peeps.. please, don't make me play the 'bump' game folks, i will you know :). |
Over the time the chain starts to develop slack. I've torn apart engines with 200,000 on them and that chain is wobbling around in there I don't know how it didn't fall off. For me it falls in the catagory of it works leave it alone

First off, how about a little bit of patience. Do not bump a post after waiting ~10 hours, especially on such a none critical question. Also, you should be aware that some people cannot answer at all times of the day... Hence the 24hr requirement stated in the rules of the forum...
The problem really is that it is such a general question that there is no real 'yes' or 'no' option. Timing chains can last 50k or they can last 400k. It comes down to you and what you want to do. If you need some extra peace of mind, tear into it and replace it. Myself, if it isn't causing any problems and I have no reason to take that part of the truck apart, I would leave it be until it actually caused a problem. |
If it aint broke dont fix it!!!!!! These engines are carbon copies of there big bro the chevy 350. You will be fine just drive it an enjoy it.
