Tire Thump

I purchased a set of great tires for my application 2 years ago: Goodyear SR-A as I use this car as an inclimate weather vehicle and 98% is on road, high speed usage. A wonderful smooth tire that is wearing like iron with constant pressure checks and rotations at about 5k.I now have about 50k on these and still have 5/32 tread left! The last time I rotated them I swapped from side to side, front to rear as some minor cupping was occurring-after a month a thump has develped in one tire with no other symptoms:vibration, flat spots or visible signs of excessive wear. Does any one remember the days when you could not reverse the rotation of radials? It seems like I am experiencing the old radial run-out problem! The local cop was fueling out on the highway and he heard me go by and later asked me just what was wrong with my tires! Any ideas? These tires are way too good to replace with only 60% tread usage and they are wearing so evenly! Thanks in advance! 97 Jimmy 4x4- tire in question is in the LR position

i did a little bit of research on this when i bought new tires and from what i read, the whole tire rotation thing, from side to side, is now basically a myth. from what i understand, it did happen quite a bit back in the day, but now, with technology and all that, its more or less a thing of the past. although, i still wouldnt discredit it. if you havent had any problems in 50k and now you are....there might still be something to this. i would switch them back personally and see if it goes away.

Yes,I did have radial runout issues in the 70's-more prevelent on my 66 C-10 with the radials of those days. Anyway after the rain stopped here I swapped that tire back to the other side.Thoroughly inspected it and see no issues. Now it is on the right side of the unit and it seems quieter, checked it out with the pass window down while riding between the local 7 foot corn and noticed an improvement-and promptly aced a rabbit with that tire! I guess he didn't approve...I'll just keep my eye on it-it IS annoying tho...

i heard that!! my truck currently has 2 tires that are cupped and im about to burn the thing to the ground!!!!! but seeing as how its my work truck, that wouldnt be very profitable. lol.

usually cupping is bad shocks.
